School Grounds–Play

Dondero School

The Dondero Elementary School has exceptional access to the key ingredients for a wide variety of nature play activities:  a beautiful woodland, wetlands, athletic fields, and a group of great educators. Our design objective is to develop a master plan to extend the play opportunities to included climbing mounds, sand play, and other nature based elements, and then add some missing pieces to the structured play equipment. With additions to the existing swings, like a shelter and stage, a slide and a rope structure, the Dondero campus will be a fully functioning outdoor classroom. An opportunity also exists to use the naturally wet grounds to create rain gardens and establish positive drainage. These areas could be planted with native meadow plants that attract pollinators to the school’s campus.

Press:

The playground and forest classroom designed by terra firma is pushing forward. Renaud Industries bagan demolition last week, and did the entire job as a gift to the community and school.
